Your twenties- The time when you are very certain that you are seven years old- but forced to do 27 year old things. Be honest: You’d much rather watch cartoons, take naps and eat ice cream. Yet, we’re forced to “play” in a 9 to 5 setting where your boss makes you want to cry & you eat lunch at your desk. Gross. While we’d love to stay young forever, there are a few habits we need to harbor to survive our twenties- together…

Four Habits That ALL 20-Somethings Need To Have

1. Money Saving Habits

In my previous Millennial Monday post, I showed you some realistic techniques to save money. I’ll be honest- while some of them aren’t always viable (as in, it’s not always possible to save half of your paychecks), it is possible to create and implement money saving habits. In fact, if you don’t start saving in your twenties, it’s much harder to catch up in your 30’s, 40’s, and 50’s.

2. Productivity Habits

Your productivity does not get to go out the window at 5pm on Friday. While vegging out with a bag of cheetos, a Netflix show and your fuzzy slippers sounds ideal, it’s not the best for your mind, body and soul. Being productive on the weekend, for even one of the two days, OR for a couple hours each day- keeps you sharp & hold less of a grudge on Monday going back to work. I promise with that. I’m not saying do work- just get your grocery shopping done & get a workout in. Easy Peasy, lemon squeezy!

3. Self-Love Habits

Say it with me “You Need To Love Yourself”. I’m going to be clear here, I’m not throwing the whole “you have to love yourself before you can love anything else”- I’m saying “You need to love yourself to survive”. Creating habits for self-love help to make sure that no matter HOW busy life gets, you still have time to take care of yourself. There’s easy ways for you to get out, be alone, and treat yourself. Go for a walk, take a bath, get your nails done, go shopping alone, or just take a drive.

4. Routine Habits

Routines. (I literally throw routine down your throat as often as I can) Here’s a couple habits that I really love, that I want to share with ya’ll!

Morning Routines: Wake Up | Stretch | Make Coffee | Read The Bible | Get Ready
After Work Routines: Come Home | Decompress | Hit A Workout | Make Dinner | Read
Bed Time Routines: Journal | Wash Your Face | Watch 30 Min Of TV | Sleep (forever)
Weekend Routines: Wake Up | Workout | Run Errands | Take A Nap | Date Night
“Self Love” Routines: Wake Up | Journal | Take A Walk | Take A Bath | Go To Lunch Alone

Having habits that you keep up with, kiiiiind of makes you feel like your life is on track. While I’m not telling you “do this or else“, I am telling you that creating workable habits gives you the potential to find success is all aspects of your life.

  1. Hey Jen,

“You need to love yourself to survive”.

SO TRUE! I was literally just talking about this. You cannot make it if you don’t love yourself. It’s going to be hard, you’re going to struggle, you’re going to want to give up, but if you love yourself, you find beauty in every mess.

I do believe that loving yourself is the beginning of everything that is wonderful for a person. If you don’t love yourself you can’t believe in yourself or even want better for you.

I love all the quotes you mentioned! I just did a post on “26 Inspiring Self-Love Quotes.”

I really need to get better at routines, mine just got BLOWN up by this nonsense day light savings time.

    What time is it?

  2. I would say for a someone who is 26 at the moment that having some consistency in life can make a massive difference to how you feel about life. I’m currently unemployed and desperately looking for a good job to start a life with and I know that I have been a little more out of wack than I’d like to be because all my focus has gone to achieving that one goal.
